Pignat BDF2000 – Fluid Dynamics Demonstration Bench

The BDF2000 is a compact educational fluid dynamics bench designed for practical learning in engineering laboratory. This self-contained unit allows students to investigate pressure losses in pipes, valves, and fittings, and compare flow rate measurement techniques using different flowmeters.

The unit is mainly constructed with transparent PVC piping, stainless steel pump, and interchangeable valves. It offers visualisation of fluid behaviour and precise measurement of fluid dynamics parameters. It includes a 60L polyethylene tank, centrifugal pump (4 m³/h), diaphragm and globe valves, 180° and 90° elbows with various radii, abrupt changes in pipe diameter, and sections of different pipe roughness.

The training bench enables a wide array of experiments: from observing laminar vs. turbulent flow via Reynolds' tracer method to determining pressure drops and validating flow measurement accuracy. Flow is measured with float-type, Venturi, and diaphragm flowmeters, while a differential pressure transmitter records system losses with high accuracy.
