  • DL PEL-HIL 4.0 – Power Electronics Laboratory with Hardware in the Loop

The DL PEL-HIL 4.0 is a power electronics laboratory from De Lorenzo for designing control algorithms in MATLAB and Simulink and testing them on real converters and motors. Students build and simulate a model of the complete system offline. They then compile the controller and run it in real time on the laboratory's rapid control prototyping core, the DL RCPCORE. This lets a class compare measured results with simulation and tune the controller before and during hardware implementation. MATLAB and Simulink licences are not included and must be arranged separately by the user.

The laboratory covers hardware-in-the-loop control of converters and motor drives. The DL RCPCORE connects Simulink models to the hardware and has six isolated channels that measure up to ±1000 V and ±25 A, so closed-loop control can use voltage and current feedback directly. A frequency converter module with independently driven IGBTs works as a DC chopper or an inverter. It supplies an RLC load or one of three machines: a 200 W DC shunt motor, a 370 W squirrel cage motor and a 400 W permanent-magnet servo motor. A brushless servo drive applies the load in speed or torque mode and supports four-quadrant testing, including regenerative braking. A three-phase waveform module records voltage and current waveforms and shows their spectrum.

Each experiment includes a target demo model holding the control algorithm, a host demo model for real-time debugging and a Simulink library for further development. Park and Clarke transformations and space vector modulation are covered as control design topics. Bestech Australia supplies the DL PEL-HIL 4.0 with on-site training and commissioning support available.
