Profile measurement of mounted tram rails

Monitoring wears in trams is very important so as to maintain good operating conditions and avoid wear of the wheels and rail. To facilitate this kind of measurement, a measurement system that can automatically detect and analyse the wear is preferred. In this case, non-contact laser profile scanners are used to record the profile of the rail. These scanners detect wears and then evaluate and analyse this data.

Bestech Australia has scanCONTROL laser profile scanners by Micro-epsilon that enable measurements by creating a cross-section of the rail, hence providing an innovative and time-saving solution to scanning the rail profile. These sensors lets the customer determine very specific and permissible deviation. A detailed and interactive map of the rail network is provided by the Cloud software that enables the customer check the specified areas with wear where the respective condition of single sections of rail is coloured.

The scanCONTROL laser profile scanners have a wide range to choose from, depending on the measuring range and measuring speed required as per the application. They also have an option to choose from red and blue laser scanner and the choice depends on the level of penetration a customer is looking for while performing measurements. These scanners generally do not require any external controllers while operation.
