Automatic rail inspection using laser profile scanners

Inspecting railway tracks is important to ensure public safety, but it can be a time-consuming process. To address this issue, a more efficient way of inspection is needed. The goal of the inspection is to both maintain comfort and catch the early signs of wear that result from regular use. For the early recognition of faults and problems, a maintenance vehicle developed by Donfabs & Consillia can be used.

The system works along with the measuring sensors offered by Micro-Epsilon. The large measuring range of these sensors helps to detect any deviation without moving from their position. In total six sensors are used that provide the measured data to the control system developed by the customer. Intelligent SMART models allow each sensor to be set on its own. Despite changing environmental conditions, these sensors are capable of providing accurate results without any interference from weather or dirt.
