Wear and tear can considerably reduce the efficiency of foam cutting machines if not detected and corrected in good time. To avoid this, the laser profile scanners from Micro-Epsilon are used to measure the sharpness of band knives used in cutting foam. During operation, knives wear down and need replacing. By using a simple test, it’s easy to ensure that a band knife is still sharp enough for ideal foam cutting.
The scanCONTROL 2910-10/BL laser profile scanner is installed on the machine to detect any issue in the band knife. The scanner checks for deviations in the thickness and width of the knife tip to provide reliable measurements regarding the degree of wear of the knife. In case of extremely deviated output, a grinding device is activated to sharpen the knife. The grinding settings are also dependent on the value provided by the laser scanner.
With compact size and low weight, scanCONTROL 29xx series scanners are easy to transport and move around, while still providing excellent scanning strength. Their laser line of only 10 mm allows scanning even the smallest structures and details with great precision.
