Measuring the height of pressed-in pins

Over the last decades, a large portion of the semiconductor industry’s tool-based processes was highly automated. Today, increasingly small dimensions and high speeds in production are an important challenge for machine and process engineering in this sector. In order to receive high-quality products, a specialized machine was developed by Automationpro. The machine is used in inspecting the height of the pressed-in contact pins on the PCB. However, prior to this, it is important to ensure that PCB contact pins are pressed in properly to avoid any malfunction.

For this purpose, scanCONTROL profile sensor by Micro-Epsilon is used. The sensor is responsible for performing a 3D scan of the PCB. Once the scan is completed the raw data is sent to the software for processing purposes. The whole process of scanning and evaluation takes less than a second, which is great to inspect each PCB and receive fault-free output. Additionally, the system offers high precision along with high repeatability.
